Pancho’s Vegan Tacos is closing its Long Beach location • the Hi-lo

Pancho’s Vegan Tacos, which has been operating in Long Beach for a year, will close indefinitely, the restaurant owner announced on Instagram on Saturday.

Pancho’s Las Vegas location will also close, the company said.

“We are committed to providing our guests and friends with the highest quality vegan food and environment,” the Instagram post said. “This commitment forced us to make the difficult decision to close both sites indefinitely.”

Owner Sacbe Meling, a Downey native, opened his small chain of vegan restaurants in Nevada in 2016. Pancho’s Long Beach restaurant on Seventh Street opened in April 2021.

While Pancho obviously sold tacos, his vegan cuisine also included burritos, tortas, enchiladas, quesadillas, sopes, tostadas, huaraches, albondigas, pozole, nachos, desserts, aqua frescas and vegan horchata.

Pancho’s asada, al pastor, and chorizo were all wheat-based. Their chicken was soy based, while the carnitas were tender jackfruit. Mushrooms and cacti were also used due to their high protein content.

No one answered the phone at the Pancho’s Long Beach location and the voicemail was full.

The all-vegetable Mexican restaurant, Pancho’s Vegan Tacos, will open on April 6
