Shambaugh & Son LP provided design-build services on an award-winning cheese processing and drying plant

NORWALK, Connecticut, August 3, 2021– (BUSINESS WIRE) – Shambaugh & Son LP (Shambaugh), a subsidiary of EMCOR Group, Inc., constructed the building envelope and support services for the cheese processing and drying facility 400,000 square foot whey from MWC.

Located in St. Johns, MI, MWC’s all-new facility won the 2021 Dairy Plant of the Year award for its impressive accomplishments in a range of nominating categories including plant efficiency, employee safety, sustainability and technology. MWC is a joint venture of Glanbia plc, Select Milk Producers, Inc. and Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. This plant is the largest part of a recent billion dollar investment in Michigan’s dairy industry .

MWC is one of the largest completely new cheese and whey processing facilities built, handling and processing 120 tankers per day. Over 340,000 cubic yards of imported backfill, 800 tonnes of structural steel, 20,000 cubic yards of cast-in-place concrete, 2,100 precast units and over 50 miles of process piping, utility lines and roads of electric cables were used in the construction of this state-of-the-art facility which processes 25 percent of the milk produced in Michigan.
