Zac Efron quits veganism, says his body ‘didn’t process vegetables’

Zac Efron has revealed he quit veganism, saying he reintroduced animal products to his diet because his “body wasn’t processing vegetables the right way”.

The 34-year-old actor, who was plant-based for about two years, was inspired to give up animal products by his Down to earth co-host Darin Olien.

But now he says he has reintroduced things like meat to his diet, including organ meats like liver.

The turnaround may surprise some fans, as Zac had spoken very positively about the lifestyle in the past.

In a 2018 interview with teen voguehe said: “[It’s] has completely changed the way my body works, and the way I metabolize food, the way it turns into energy, the way I sleep.

“It was great for my exercise and great for my routine.”

However, in his recent interview with men’s health, he said, “I started intermittent fasting right after I quit being a vegan. My body was not processing vegetables the right way.

“So I decided to quit and try something new. Intermittent fasting has been really helpful in this regard.

He described his diet at the outlet, saying he ate twice a day and consumed foods like bone broth and protein, including elk and chicken. He seems to only eat small portions of carbs, including quinoa and sweet potato.

His new diet is likely to dismay his vegan supporters, however, he noted that he believes it is best ethical to avoid animal products.

He said, “Morally, of course, I’d still like to be vegan.”

The actor joins a group of other celebrities who once promoted a vegan lifestyle but have since reintroduced animal foods, including Miley Cyrus, Anne Hathaway and Samuel L. Jackson.
